Bongeunsa (temple) was built by Yeonhoe-guksa, a high Buddhist priest, in the 10th year (794) of the reign of Silla King Wonseong, and was originally called Gyeonseongsa (Temple). In 1498, the temple, which is located to the east of Seolleung, went through a remodeling, thanks to the support of Queen Jeonghyeon, the wife of King Seongjong, and was renamed Bongeunsa.
